My older children wanted so badly to go to a baby shower for this baby. They had seen all the fun decorations and yummy food for a a baby shower I hosted this summer for my little sister for her first baby. I tried to explain to them that you usually only have a baby shower for the first baby you have. Some dear friends of mine recently hosted a little sprinkle brunch for me, but it wasn't a kid event. So we decided to have a small family shower that they could enjoy, but instead of making the focus me, we made it about them being the best big brothers and sisters ever. We invited just our local family. Originally, I had planned on keeping it very small and just having cake and ice cream but my mother-in-law was kind enough to make some of her best dishes. Here are some of the details from our Big Brother & Big Sister Baby Shower.
We got a cake from Whole Foods. It was delicious and huge (they have very generous slicing sizing). It was a vanilla cake with a rich, thick chocolate ganache filling with vanilla butter cream frosting. We don't know if we are having a boy or a girl, so it was pale green and yellow cake that said "Congratulations to the Best Big brothers & Sisters." A very proud biggest brother cut the cake.
The kids helped me make "babies in blankets" with little smokies and crescent rollls
Chicken salad croissants
Ham and cheese croissants
Pretzel salad (a delicious family favorite)
Guess how many chocolate chips in to he baby bottle game
How many sheets of toilet paper does it take to wrap around my pregnant belly
Draw a baby on a paper plate on your head
The baby's 3D ultrasound picture
My pregnancy journal for this baby (I have this journal and matching baby book for each baby and they are some of my most treasured possessions)
(because there is always room for one more sweet soul to love in our family)
This little cousin made one of the best "decorations" of all. The big brothers and sisters were getting lots of baby practice smiling and cooing with her.
We had told everyone no gifts because we pretty much have everything we need, but a sweet granny knew how much the kids would enjoy giving presents to the new baby. So she had each of them give a little wrapped baby essential that we need - diapers, baby shampoo, binkies and snack cups. The best gift of all though was a handmade scrapbook from all the big brothers and sisters to their new baby sibling with drawings and letters in it by each of them.
I feel so blessed to have this wonderful family of mine
We are getting very excited!!!
