Mother's Day 2013

One of those days I will never forget.

What a great husband to give me exactly what I wanted - not a day of pampering or a day away from all my troubles with my feet up and freshly painted, but instead all I wanted was a day to remember with my family. A day in the place in this world where I am the happiest with the people who make that place even worth being at.

We hiked, awed at waterfalls, blew "wish flowers," counted tree stump rings, picked flowers, played in creeks, searched for the perfect hiking stick and breathed lots of clean, crisp mountain air. We brought home homemade sourdough bread and many jars of homemade jam.

For dinner we happened upon a gem of southern comfort food, Famous Louise's Rock House. It is situated on the three county lines in the NC mountains, so you walk in the door in one county, dine in another and pay your tab in a third county. We had some delicious fried chicken, friend shrimp and scallops, hush puppies, veggies and no less than 6 types of homemade fruit pies and homemade strawberry shortcake.
Put it on your short list of places to visit in North Carolina.

Some pictures from the top of my world
from the bottom of my heart.

My husband was the superhero of the day, sometimes carrying two children on our hikes, one in a   hiking backpack carrier and another in a baby bjourn. He deserved that slice of pie at the end of the day.
