A Simple Saint Joseph Dinner

I had a dear friend and her children come stay with us for the weekend, so we had a simple dinner for the Feast of Saint Joseph of spaghetti with breadcrumbs as sawdust and cream puffs for dessert . I had planned to make some shaped breads but decided that the best way to spend teh special time togetehr was to just hang out and let the children play outside and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather.

I love this big cherry blossom tree in our front yard.

Pumpkin was having fun blowing the fallens petals which looked like a Spring snow as they fell all around our house and street.

We also went to our downtown Saint Patrick's Day Parade.

Bibiddi Bobiddi Boo, Dreams really do come true

Peaches just turned three recently and wanted a Cinderella birthday party. All the little girls were so happy and Peaches felt like the belle of the ball.
Invitations
I ordered this invitation except it was personalized for Peaches,
and the top two lines instead read,
"Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo,
Dreams really do come true."
Decorations
Lots of Cinderella blue streamers and balloons, Cinderella dolls and toy carriages and a Cinderella tablecloth with a place setting fit for a princess for each royal guest.
When the girls arrived, they walked in on a "red carpet"
Dress
I ordered the Cinderella dress on Etsy
I fell in love with adorable crown from Etsy. Of course, they all wore Cinderella blue and were so excited for the party to start.
Food
The royal guests all had a fine lunch of...
Magic Wand Sandwiches with cream cheese and strawberry jam and a pretzel rod for the wand stick
Yogurt Princess Parfaits with blueberry and strawberry yogurt, granola and whipped cream
Love can come true snack mix with pretzels that are kind of heart shaped, heart candy and heart marshmallows
Veggies and dip served in a midnight pumpkin
Cake
The cake could be none other than Cinderella herself with a glass slipper on a pillow beside her. The cake actually has her name with "Happy Birthday" but I edited it out. This was the hardest cake I ever made because I had to shave down the dress part and then it was all crumby. I would normally have put a glaze on it and then iced it to make it easier, but it was already on top of the iced base cake and I thought maybe the glaze would run and be too hard to clean up. So I decided to just go for icing it straight on crumb surface. It took forever was a mess. Then when I went to put the Cinderella doll in the dress, I had not dug out a deep enough hole and Cinderella was sticking out. So then I had to add a few extra bits of cake to make the dress higher. It turned out just perfect in the end and my little Cinderella was so happy.
Favors
For favors, each guest took home a pink magic wand lollipop made with these and this mold. Activities There was a treasure hunt for Cinderella's glass slipper using these clues... Cinderella left the ball right at midnight and before the Prince knew it she was out of sight The Prince found her glass slipper as she ran away Cinderella kept the other slipper but she has lost it today Will you help Cinderella find the missing glass slipper? Cinderella needs it when the Prince comes to find her. To find Cinderella's glass slipper just follow the clues you"ll need to search high and low, but I'm sure you can't lose Cinderella always had a floor to sweep where in the world would her broom she keep After cleaning so hard Cinderella would be tired she'd sit here to keep warm by the fire To the Royal Ball Cinderella so wanted to go she thought a dress she'd have time to sew The night of the ball she had nothing to wear so she sat on her back porch and cried in despair but then POOF came her fairy godmother to save the day and turned a PUMPKIN into a carriage to drive her away With her Prince Charming she danced all over the ballroom floor until the clock struck midnight and she had to rush out the FRONT DOOR She rushed home with happy thoughts in her head and she was so tired from dancing she went straight to BED Yeah you helped Cinderella find her missing glass slipper now she'll be ready when Prince Charming comes looking for her doorbell rings Someone at the door, oh who could that be, maybe its' Prince Charming looking for his little lady. The girls then ran downstairs and at the door was Bart and my son with a crown on his head to be Prince Charming (he was supposed to be the Prince by himself but he was a little shy so Bart helped him out). He held a pillow with the other glass slipper and carried it in while Peaches sat on a decorated chair and then put it on her foot just like Cinderella. The girls spent most of the time in their princess dress up dancing to a princess cd that my mom found that you could get customized with a girl's name so that her name was sung during the little songs. The girls loved it. It was such a wonderful party and the best part was seeing Peaches smile the entire time. Happy Birthday to our sweet little Cinderella.

Our St. Patrick's Day

A few snapshots of your day... A Saint Patrick party table waiting for the children when they woke up.

green eggs, green milk & green buttered toast for breakfast
The fruit rainbow and a pot of gold was a big hit, so much so I never got to get a picture of the kids eating it.

my Irish crew We read many St. Patrick books and watched this Saint Patrick movie. I also found this silly You tube video about Saint Patrick which the kids thought was funny. Surprisingly it was pretty historically accurate. We colored pictures of Saint Patrick and decorated with lots of shamrock stickers.
Irish beef & Guinness Irish stew & Irish soda bread for dinner We had some friends join us for dinner and a leprechaun friend of theirs brought the children a box of Lucky Charms, perfect for dessert. Hope you also had a happy Saint Patrick's Day.

St. Patrick's Day Fruit Rainbow & A Pot of Gold

For Saint Patrick's Day, I loved this idea from Homemade Serenity of a fruit rainbow and a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We actually planned on changing it a little bit using whipped cream for the cloud instead of marshmallows, but the can of whipped cream slipped out of my hand and the whole spout system broke into a bunch of pieces. Luckily, we had some marshmallows in the pantry to use instead.
I decided to make this ahead of time tonight using some lemon juice so I won't have to spend time tomorrow cutting all the fruit. I'll share more pictures tomorrow night of our Saint Patrick's Day festivities.
A BLESSING FOR YOU AND YOURS
May the grace of God’s protection
And His great love abide
Within your home
and within the hearts
Of all who dwell inside.

A Birthday Surprise

For Peaches' birthday present, we furnished and decorated her room. For three days she slept in the guest bedroom while we worked in the evenings putting it together. It meant a lot to me to sew her curtains myself. She was so happy and loves to sit in her bed and read ballerina books.
Some of you may recognize the beautiful Madonna and Child plaque above the lamp on the nightstand, as it was made by the talented Kristin at Small Treasures. It is such a perfect addition to the room.

If you're interested in all the details:

I ordered the Jamestown pink baby toile fabric from Warehouse Fabrics Inc. A friend of mine sewed the bed skirts for me as I didn't think I would have the time to do both the curtains and the bed skirts.
The furniture is the Stanley Young America Ma Marie collection dressing chest and three drawer night stand in french white antique. I am lucky enough to have a local store (Shower Me With Love) that is a Young America flagship store and offers it at a discounted price.
The white wrought iron beds are from Walmart.
The white hemstitch duvets and shams from Overstock.
The canopy drapes are from Pottery Barn Kids.
The antique white wrought iron chandelier is from Gallery Lighting.
The white window hardware is from Bed, Bath and Beyond.
The scalloped oval mirror is from Lowes.
I used pink wired satin ribbon from Michaels as accents for the ribbon, drapes and curtains.
The white roman shade drapes came with the house, and I loved them.
There is not a picture here, but on another wall are wooden pink letters (similar to these on Etsy) that spell out her name.
Underneath is a large pink toile floor pillow from Home Goods on the floor which is the perfect cozy reading spot.
On that wall there is also a whimsical Oopsy Daisy monogrammed pink giraffe growth chart by which you can get at Rosenberry Rooms.
The pink and white polkadot piggy bank was a baby gift from Tiffany & Co.
The guardian angel statue is from our local dollar store.
The lamp and lamp shade are from Walmart (sorry I can not find a link).
The personalized baptism pillows are from Personalization Mall.

Happy Mardi Gras!!

We had a sweet breakfast today fit for a king...

Easy Cinnamon Roll King Cake

I rolled the dough out instead and then linked it a couple rolls at a time and twisted it into a wreath. For this wreath I used four small cinnamon roll containers.

Hope you had a festive Fat Tuesday!!

Ideas for Lent

The three traditional pillars of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Through each one we give of ourselves in a way to draw closer to Christ
through His ultimate sacrifice of his life.
Prayer - for the grace to live out our baptismal promises
Fasting - our hunger for food reminding us of our hunger for God
Almsgiving - to become more like Christ in all he gave us
Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras)
This year we will make either a monkey bread king cake or an easy cinnamon roll king cake
Ash Wednesday
"To prepare well for the day we die, we must die now to sin and rise to new life in Christ. Being marked with ashes at the beginning of Lent indicates our recognition of the need for deeper conversion of our lives during this season of renewal."
Attend mass and receive ashes
Ash Wednesday Coloring Page
"...For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
Genesis 3:19

Last year we actually made this jelly bean activity a lot simpler than in the link below by just adding a dried bean anytime we did a charitable deed for another or made a sacrifice for Christ. Here is a link to the jar label which was made by a dear friend, you can adjust the size of the image to your jar. Then on Easter Sunday all the dried beans were emptied out and the jar was filled with jelly beans (Jelly Belly sassy sours of course as they are my favorite)

Loving some new tiny precious feet...

I am so excited to share how happy I am to have a pair of tiny 10 week old feet kicking around and growing inside me. We are expecting our fourth sweet baby this September. I am feeling great. We are so excited and so are the children. They keep telling everyone, "there is a baby in mommy's belly." I would be so thankful for your prayers for this baby. This baby of mine is in good company, so please keep these other expecting moms in your prayers as well, Charlotte, Kate & especially Suzanne as she waits to know for sure.
Saint Gianna, patron saint of unborn children, please pray for us.
