Cloth Diapers Take Two

I had such wonderful intentions of using cloth diapers with Sweet Pea, but a couple of weeks into our adventure, her baby soft bottom got the most horrendous diaper rash. I was exhausted and overwhelmed, and that was enough to push me back into disposables. So now I am a little more settled and in a good place with my little ones, and I had been thinking about trying again. So I got all my supplies out a few days ago and re-practiced putting them on. And here I am hoping it will work out this time. I don't know what to call our cloth diaper style, it's a hybrid of all the hand-me-downs and little diaper covers my mom bought me. I am using mostly pre-folds in snap covers or pocket one-size snap diapers. Please share any tips and advice you have from washing, to drying, storing to transport and more. Wish me luck, but don't think poorly of me if it doesn't work out.

I know exactly how you feel. I have done some cloth diapering with all 3 of my children so far, but I haven't been as "successful" as I hoped with any of them. What I've found is that when I'm in the routine, it's really not a big deal, but if I get out of it for any reason (rash, vacation, etc.) it's just really hard to go back for some reason. During stressful times it's just hard to have that one more thing to deal with even if it's not all that big a thing. So, do the best you can if you feel it's what you need to, but definitely don't beat yourself up if you have to change your plans.

I wrote a piece on this just recently. I hope there is something helpful for you in it! :)

BTW, since I wrote this, we've switched to Rockin' Green soap. We had developed some mineral build-up due to our hard water, and the RNG really makes a difference....

I've used cd's for three of my four children. Baby four is five months old, and happily cloth diapered. What I love this time around, is using a plain old trash can from target as a diaper pail. I got two pail liners, so I have one while the other is washing. I use mostly prefolds and I love love love FLIP covers. Bummis super brite covers are nice too. Bum genius is great...for a little more money. I think just having the pail liner to simply lift out, and put it all in the wash makes it so easy. It's made a huge difference for me. I personally love hanging my dipes outside, but have used the drier on regular heat if it's rainy. Hope it helps! feel free to email me with any questions! pegleg.24@hotmail.com
