Last week with Little Saints, we learned about Children Around the World. It was a very light week as we had many things going on. We have also been busy doing a lot of Advent and Christmas reading, crafting and baking that I'll post about later.

Books We ReadNot pictured that we read also, because I forgot it was upstairs in the kid's room when I took the picture, is Our Lady of Guadalupe by Tomie dePaola which coincided nicely with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12th.
We made brownie stars and decorated them like the stars on Our Lady of Guadalupe's mantle on Saint Juan Diego's tilma. I didn't have white icing or feel like making it, and maybe cookies would have been better, but I was craving brownies.
We made and decorated our gingerbread houses to coincide with the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th because the aroma of gingerbread reminds us of the passage in the Book of Sirach, 24:20-21 that describes Mary smelling like spices:
"I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon and aromatical balm; I yielded a sweet odor like the best myrrh; and I perfumed my dwelling as store, and galbanum, and onyx, and aloes, and as the frankincense not cut, and my odor is as the purest balm."
We also went to a local Italian restaurant's kids pizza making event with some friends, which I thought was an appropriate activity for celebrating cultures around the world. Pumpkin had fun making pizza and ate the entire pizza which is not typical for him right now.
We also made shrimp alfredo as our white meal symbolizing Mary's purity for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, but the picture didn't come out right and didn't show how yummy it was.
We went to an exhibit of gingerbread houses and castles on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Here are some of the masterpieces.
We did a few crafts and coloring activities, but I forgot to take pictures.
We have been listening to lots of beautiful Advent and Christmas songs.
We also watched the Little Drummer Boy DVD (you can watch it here on youtube.com)
